This scenic destination offers nine different zip lines for an unforgettable adventure. Two of which are rope bridges and another being a rappel that descends from a rock. During this experience, you’ll zip line over massive limestone canyons and extensive forested land. Soaring over treetops with a bird’s eye view will leave you stunned.
Ocala is also home to a number of natural springs. The list includes Rainbow Springs, Paradise Springs, Silver Springs, Juniper Springs, Silver Glen Springs, Alexander Springs, among others. At Rainbow Springs you can find yourself on a tube, drifting down a 2-hour float. Paradise Springs is known as an amazing scuba spot. Its cavern walls are covered with prehistoric fossils. Silver Springs Park offers a famous glass bottom boat tour and kayak rentals, both with amazing views of the fresh water marine life. You will also be likely to see some of the local wild life, including alligators and monkeys! Silver Springs Park is also a popular wedding venue for many. As one of the top 25 canoe runs, Juniper Springs is a great place to play for the day. Silver Glenn and Alexander Springs are popular for swimming and family BBQs. These crystal-clear waters provide families and friends with a great opportunity to explore nature and enjoy a fun-filled day.
In addition to all the outdoor pursuits that the Ocala area has to offer, there are a lot of things happening in Downtown Ocala as well. There are plenty of places to dine ranging from small eateries to steak houses. You can explore history as well as cafes, shops, wineries, bars, and parks. Annually, the square holds an event known as “Light up Ocala,” kicking off the holiday with a countdown to light up the town. This event offers 100 + food and craft vendors as well as live music, a parade and photo opportunities. There are several live outdoor concerts throughout the year – bring your lawn chair, grab a beer, and enjoy the show. There is always something going on in Downtown Ocala.
- Sayulita Taqueria: if you’re looking for a family-friendly place where the kids are welcome and Mom & Dad can get a good margarita – this is it! Offering delicious Mexican food and family-oriented games, Sayulita is the place for you. The joint offers outside seating with corn hole, hook and ring game, and great music.
- Corkscrew Winery: This is a great spot for quiet date nights, family gatherings, corporate events, team building exercises, and other private events. They offer group wine making classes as well as Paint and Sip classes. Live music is played on the weekends for your entertainment.
- Bank Street: As a new addition to downtown, Bank Street opened its door to Ocala in October of last year. This patio bar is easily the largest bar in the city providing a spacious friendly and fun environment. Alongside one of the patio areas is an appealing wall of graffiti resembling food trucks with walk up windows for ordering food. Customers have a wide array of choices from salads and flatbreads, to tacos and more, to order at their leisure.
- Other downtown night spots include O’Malley’s Alley, Brick City, Taverns on the Square, Pi on Broadway, and many others.
Marion County Speedway
Another thrilling site in Ocala is the local racing facility. This race track features a ¼ mile dirt track for sprint cars, modifieds, go karts and bikes! They also sponsor a variety of events and offer classes. This provides the town with an opportunity to embark on a thrilling adventure for the whole family.
HITS Ocala Winter Circuit Horse Shows
While being the “Horse Capital of the World”, Ocala hosts the annual HITS events to recognize equestrian sports and its participants. “HITS” is the acronym for Horse Shows in the Sun. This show circuit is one of the largest and most popular in the country and draws participants from around the world. The show features the world’s top equestrians over the course of 10 weeks, awarding over $5 million in prize money!
The possibilities do not end here, Ocala is also home to the Appleton Museum of Arts, an active Civic Theatre, Farm Tours, Shalom Park, Ghost Tours, The Ocala National Forest, a weekly farmer’s market and much more!
